Do you think that the complaints metioned in declaration of independence are legitimate cause for Revolution and ultimately war? Are they completely accurate, why or why not?

ReplyDeleteI think that the Americans were absolutely right in striving for independence: Why should the Americans remain in the power of a system that abuses them? Why should America, a land full of untapped resources, remain on lock down by a small island? Why should a people of a different culture be ruled by another? These are the questions answered in the Declaration of Independence.
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks Mr. Robison.
ReplyDeleteAnd my thought on the Declaration of Independenc, is that all men are created equal and nobody should get in the way of that. The hopes of people shouldn't be interrupted.
People wrote the Declaration to help people live better lives and become more organized with everything.
Now I rightfully agree with Paul, Americans were right on track, by wanting independence in their lives!
ReplyDeleteI probably have two favorite lines from the Declaration of Independence.
ReplyDelete"He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures."
I'm really not sure if I understand this fully, but I find it pretty funny. I guess I can just picture the king calling people together in some random and remote place where they're all uncomfortable and just kind of awkward feeling. Then when the king comes up with some new rule, everyone agrees with him just so they can leave.
I could be way off in my interpretation, but I just find it funny.
My second favorite line would be "He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."
That, to me, looks like enough of a reason to want to break off from the king.
I do believe that the Americans had a legitimate reason for wanting to be separated from Britain.
Some of the reasons listed, however, seem like things that happened because of America's resistance. Wouldn't cutting off trade with all of the world have happened when America stopped wanting to trade with Britain?
I think that the Americans had a right to revolt and go to war but look at how risky it was. Regardless of the reasons in the document just imagine what it would be like if this war was lost...do not get me wrong im glad the U.S. came out victors.
ReplyDeleteIn studying the Declaration of Independance for a little while, I have concluded some fresh opinions about the document that helped in creating our nation.
ReplyDeleteI believe that all of the Declaration is accurate. If the original draft became what we know of it today, then maybe a lot of it would be put up for debate, since the author had slaves himself, and most of what was ommitted involved the inequality of men and the poor integrity of societal slavery.
One reason that helps me to believe Americans had the right to pull away from Britain was the fact that Great Britain had a tyranical rule over them. The King, more specifically, was incorporating rules and laws that supported the land of the British and not the land of the Americans. There was no benefit for America like there was for Great Britain and its King. So, it was "WITH THE CONSENT OF THE GOVERNED" that America preffered as a ruling. This meant that America now saw it reasonable for America to run itself because a government should be made by the people for the people.
Second, I think they had a right to pull away from Great Britain, because of some of the small thing. One would be the fact that Judges were forced to support the King's rule so they could be paid and kept in their seats. When you are influenced by some other government that helps itself, you will not only be leashed like a dog, but left to rule by someone else's beliefs and not the beliefs of the land the trial is held in. What "self ruling" power the colonies once had were now going away.
A third reason why I support the break between Great Britain was the fact that it was taxing a nation with the support that they were only trying to get their money back, when really, it should have been the nation of America itself to proclaim how to award, payback, or do nothing at all to defer the costs of the French-Indian War. As a nation of great self-ability, America did have the right to be its own. All other nations are able break, and America believe in the same principle.
I can see the frustration of the colonists, as it came by storm, the totaltarian crimes of the King and his ruling. The King confiscated American property of the sea. The King put the new nation against itself by bolstering the power of Great Britain to those who supported it in the new nation. And also, the King wouldn't allow the people of America to settle in the land that was made by the French-Indian War. The land that Americans fought over was nothing that the Americans could dream of.
With all these points, I do believe that America had the right to put down Great Britain within its borders, especially since Great Britain used force against a peaceful protest against their taxes. This fact alone, gives every right to bring war into the middle of it. After ten years of peaceful rebellion against taxes, America had enough. This is where we would find the true, RIGHTFUL START of the American Revolution within the Revolutionary War.

ReplyDeleteI like the Declaration of Independence is a great document in, in of it self. I think that America had every right to pull away from Britain.
ReplyDeleteI believe that all men are equal and should have equal rights, now i do not mean that we should not have some authority.
Yes ,
ReplyDelete" He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people."
It doesn't really seem like the government was for the people, i was more so for power . Britain wasn't even helping the people , just ruining everything . So I feel as if Americans had every right to have independence .
