Martin Luther Bio

Now read his most famous work - the 95 Theses.  What is Luther so concerned about?  Summarize the point of the 95 Theses.  Then choose five (5) theses.  Describe what each of these can tell us about Luther's Late Medieval world.  How were governments structured?  What was the power of the church?  How would Martin Luther change the situation.

  1. I think the 95 Thesis speaks on Medieval Religion.

  2. Martin Luther was worried about the Church becoming more than what it is supposed to be. The Church was becoming state and that is not supposed to happen. The 95 Theses basically stated that the Church was becoming more of a business and less of a spiritual account. The church was becoming dirty with dirty money! The following Theses: 5, 6, 37, 70, 87 all showed that there was basically no government because the Church was the center of attention. The Church called all the shots and did it greedily. Martin Luther would spark a pretty big debate and would change people's view of the power of the Church along with their role in government.

  3. I think that he was concerned that people were starting to look at the Pope instead of God. They thought they could buy their forgiveness or get it from the Pope. He wanted to let people know that the only way to get true forgiveness is through God. 82, 83, 87, and 6 show how much power the Pope had. The government did want a lot of money and a lot of power and they got that by making people think that was the only way they would be saved. Number 71 shows the Medieval world because he talks about anathema. That is something that we wouldn't even think about now.

  5. so martin luther was against literally paying for your sins that's good. then he went and wrote the 95 theses telling people how they should act. well the church had all the power because the church basically was the government and when Martin Luther wrote the 95 theses (pointing out how the church was wrong) the church was mad and excommunicated him because the church was prideful and corrupt.

  6. He thought that the church was looking more after the pope than the church and that the only way to get forgiveness is through God. I like 6,36,2,87.

  7. according to theses 1-5 Martin is trying to get the people to know that true prayer and repentance is the only way to have true forgiveness from God. Then he talks about how the catholic church is conning the people into giving he church money to save them from hell. This whole document is pointing out the flaws in the catholic church , and how they dont agree with scriptures and martins others studies.
