I think this article is so true. We ARE too caught up with our lack of perfection. We care what people think, even when we say we don't. We want approval. We want people to like us. We feel that if we're funnier, happier, ten pounds lighter, then people will like us. Maybe people will like us if we're just honest. Maybe, if we're ourselves, we'll have more friends. We are weighed down, trying to be someone we're not. If everyone had the attitude of 'I'm going to be myself today' or 'I'm going to accept that person.', then we would be a happier world.
I think that the article is pretty true. It makes some good points. I really liked the thought that "perfectionism is the belief that if we live perfect, look perfect, and act perfect, we can minimize or avoid the pain of blame, judgment, and shame." I think that a lot of people feel that way. If someone has perfect looks then they don't have to be ashamed when they're around people. When we don't look good we feel insecure and assume that everyone is judging us. Even more, we are guilty of doing the exact same thing. It's so easy to look down on people who look funny or don't have as much money as we do. Somehow by putting others down, we feel we can lift ourselves up.
I guess I've had to deal with feeling like I couldn't compare with all my friends and the people around me. I never felt like I was pretty enough or funny enough. Then I realized that everyone feels that way, even the same people that I envied so much. Everyone has insecurities.
I feel that a lot of the struggles that come with the unattainability of perfection can be avoided when we maintain a Christian perspective and remember where we came from and Who made us. The Bible says that we were "fearfully and wonderfully made." God formed us and we are made in His image. We were made perfect in God's eyes. That kid with Down Syndrome is perfect. That girl with acne is beautiful. That mentality alone should help us realize that it's not about what we look like and who we are to other people, but who we are to God. Being kind, having a pure heart, and being loving are so much more important than having clear skin and a white smile. Knowing and believing that God accepts and loves us as we are gives us the attitude that we can be ourselves and be happy doing it.
I believe that perfection is absolutely unattainable, even spiritually. I hate that this society vainly advertises that people can reach perfection by various means. Hair products, plastic surgery, yoga and meditation, and excelling in intellectual studies are some of the ways society depicts people as reaching perfection. I think that these attempts at perfecetion are part of the vain character of humans given to us because of sin.
I think that everybody should read this article because it said stuff that is so true. I think that trying to be something that you are not makes you look stupid, and to me is a waste of time and money in some cases. The best you can do is to be yourself.
I def. agree with everyone and believe this article is so true. Not being yourself, doesn't look good, you have to always try to be yourself and love the way you are or you look kinda stupid. I agree with Joel, and what he said, that the best you can do is to be yourself. God is the only perfect one, and he made you just the way you are.
May I say that this article is so true. I will one of the first to admit that I strive all the time to reach perfection, and it is impossible. I beat myself up a lot when I don't do my best. I think a lot about how it would be to have a perfect life. But then again, I have my days when I understand that the Lord made me this way for a reason and gave me these different challenges for a purpose.
Profectionism is something that happens to be a big deal to everyone. The reason we have profectionism is because of tv ads..magazines..etc. people get this picture in their head of "perfection" and they want to be like it. If the world was all "perfect" like our society says it has to be, we would have a bunch of kens and barbies walking around. I think we as a people need to realise that we, or nothing can ever reach perfection. We need to just be ourselves and do the best we can.
People: I think that people who try an reach perfection do not know God's ultimate plan. On this earth, we are tainted by sin. Anything tainted is restrained from being pure. People can try and try and try, but they will not reach the mark. This most likely is the devil's ultimate goal: to keep your mind occupied with trying to be perfect instead of making the focus of your mind be Jesus.
Government: I think that our government has taken on too much to "try" to be perfect, that it has ultimately lost its purpose in existance. Sure, Obama may want perfection through his healthcare bill, but that is just a thing to cover up the tainting of the United States debt and lower healthcare standards. We, as a country, are completely choosing mind over matter. Children is our future, and what future are we setting up for them if our country is going to be flooded by bills, debt, and more bills? By trying to reach perfection, our country has fallen deeper.
People should really just be themselves they don't need to worry about what people think of them. It is very hard not to worry about what people think of you because of the way the world views people but it is not good to think about that.
