2. What was the long term significance of this event?

3. In the video, what is the lawyer (Henry Drummond) trying to convince the witness (Matthew Harrison Brady) to admit?  Why is this important?

4. How do the arguments being made in this trial relate to our modern situation?  Should evolution or create be taught exclusively?  What are your thoughts?

  1. 1- The Scopes Monkey Trial was a trial in which a high school professor by the name of John Scopes was charged with illegally teaching the theory of evolution to his classes. William J. Bryan was a candidate to be president and he was a traditionalist who lead a campaign which prohibited the teaching of Darwin's evolution theory.
2- It extended the argument between anti-evolutionist and evolutionist. It also wiped out the law of not being able to teach evolution in the states except for mississippi and arkansas.
3- He was trying to prove that the first days before the sun was created could have been 24 hours to 1000 years sicne the bible does not tell and the days could not be measured. this is important because this makes way to the theory that God could have created simply things and with time they evolved into more complex creatures.
4- They're arguing that each man is a free agent and has the right to believe in what they think is right therefore should not be forced to believe in something or shouldn't be able to express and share their believes. This relates to our situation because we're a free country with religious freedom and freedom of speech. I think it is right to let people decide what they want to believe in. they should not enforce either one of the theories however people should now both because some people agree or disagree with a theory without even knowing what it is about.

  2. 1. A high school teacher was charged with teaching evolution in his science class and the William Bryan (a three-time presidential candidate) was trying to get evolution banned from being taught
    2. It took away the law that said you couldn't teach evolution, it made the argument between evolutionists and non-evolutionsts bigger, and it showed how people were starting to think differently and less conservatively
    3. They were arguing the time and how long it took for God to create the world. The lawyer was trying to say that the day could have been over 24 hours which meant that God could have taken a long time to create the world and it could have evolved.
    4. They are arguing that you should be able to believe in whatever you want to so it goes compares to us because people now are still arguing which one is true and if evolution should be taught in school. I think that if they are going to teach evolution, they should at least have to tell about what creationists to believe. When you only talk about one, it means you are teaching that group of people to believe that one theory and it doesn't give them a chance to fairly and freely choose what they want to believe.

  3. 1. High school teacher charged with the illegal teaching of evolution in school.
    2. argument on evolution vs non-evolution. Law that said you couldn't teach evolution taken away.
    3. the time the creation took place and how long. That the day could have possibly been 25 hours or 1 month or even longer than that meaning that God could been creating the world slowly and it evolved that way.
    4. Everyone should have the right to believe in whatever they want, we still today argue over different beliefs. I agree with Kassidy. I think they should teach evolution, but if they are going to then they should share other beliefs about the world not just that one, and let them learn about the different options so they can choose for themselves which one they believe.

  4. 1. John Scoped a teacher being charged with teaching of evolution in school.
2.it made the argument of evolution vs non - evolution alot bigger and it took the law that you couldn't teach evolution away.
3.they were arguing about how long the creation took and were it took place. That the day could possibly have been 25 hours or 1 month or even longer, meaning that God could been creating the world slowly and it evolved that way.
    4. They are arguing for right for anyone to be able to believe what ever they would like to believe. That's related to today because people still argue over different beliefs they each have. Yes they should teach evolution but should also teach about different beliefs.

  5. 1. A tacher was on trial for teaching evolution in a school.
    2. This trail ttook away the law of not teaching evolution, and it extended the argrument between evolutionist and non evolutionist.
    3. The lawyer tried to get him to say that it took God longer to create the earth then each 24 hour day. This i simportant because It kind of creates the idea that God did create things, but He left them alone ot evolve on their own.
4.Evolution and creation is still an argument in todays society, but i dont think it is wrong to teach creation or evolution. I persanlly think that if you cansee eveyones point of view, then you can decide for yourself to what you want to believe or not.

  7. 4) I believe that the theory of evolution should be taught in school. If someone wants to study creation, they can bring a Bible to school to read. Teaching someone of other religion the word of christianity who does not want to learn it defies the freedom of religion amendment.

  8. 1. A high school teacher is put on trial because he was teaching evolution in school.

    2. Evolution is still being taught in our schools today. It's just that Creationism can't be taught (which isn't really that fair).

    3. The two were discussing that no one knows for sure if each day of Creation was 24 hours or a day could be 1000 years. This is very important because however a day is interpreted it can support the evolutionist theory (long time to create the world) or the creationists (short time to create).

    4. People are still fighting to allow students to have the option of learning Creation.I think people should be given the option to learn either evolution or creation.
